Out for a walk at the lake and stumbled across a school of suckers feeding close in to shore. Didn’t have much in the way of fishing gear except a cheap Zebco rod and reel combo stashed in the trunk of the car… and absolutely no other tackle or bait. After digging through the car we finally came up with a box of raisins and a breakfast bar. Well, the raisins were a no go, but imagine our surprise when we actually caught a fish on the cereal bar!

How much replacement fishing line should I use?

Posted by admin on June 3rd, 2011 and filed under Fishing Line | 6 Comments »

I bought a 330 yard Trilene spool and plan on replacing the existing line on my reel. Should I use all 330 yards? Or maybe just half? I’m just doing shore fishing for panfish mainly.

Your reel should say on it how much line it will hold based on the weight of the line.
    something like 06/110 means 110yards of 6lb test…

I replace all of my line every year, it’s not that expensive and I really don’t want some stupid knot in the middle of my cast breaking and costing me a fish..

If you can’t find this info, I will put line on a spinning rod untill I have about 1/16th of an inch between the lip of the spool and the roll of line.
